Signature Theatre Company's revival of Athol Fugard’s apartheid-era drama My Children! My Africa! has extended its run at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center. Directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, the production was originally scheduled to run through June 10. Starring James A. Williams, Stephen Tyrone Williams and Allie Gallerani, My Children! My Africa! will now play through June 17.
Set in 1984 in a classroom in a small Eastern Cape Karoo town, My Children! My Africa! is the story of Mr. M, a passionate teacher who tries to secure a future for his brightest student, Thami, by forming a debate team. Mr. M invites Isabel, an eager student from the local white school, to join the team. As Thami finds his voice, Mr. M’s hopes for the young man are challenged due to their generational divide and the increasing political unrest in the community.
The creative team for My Children! My Africa! includes scenic designer Neil Patel, costume designer Karen Perry, lighting designer Marcus Doshi and sound designer Robert Kaplowitz. The production features music by Bobby McFerrin.
